Dr. Mrs. Josephine Uzoamaka Aguoji – CISA President

The Board of Presidents of the Council of Igbo States in Americas (CISA) announces the election of Chief Dr. Mrs. Josephine Uzoamaka Aguoji, a native of Abagana married to Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area in Anambra State, Nigeria as the new President that will pilot the affairs of this United States apex Igbo organization from January 1, 2024.

The Council’s byelaws stipulate a 2-year rotational presidency among Igbo Speaking states in alphabetical order and now the baton of leadership returns to Anambra State. CISA Board of Presidents ratifies changes in the Council’s leadership with the consent of the Governing Council. Dr. Aguoji who has distinguished herself as a consummate and seasoned educational administrator takes over from Engr. James Ogbuka Umekwe (Abia) whose tenure expires on December 31, 2023

Dr. Mrs. Josephine Uzoamaka Aguoji who has played pivotal role in the organization comes highly and widely recommended with wealth of experience crisscrossing Nigeria, Europe, and United States to drive the continuing advancement of CISA. She is a graduate of Bayero University Kano, University of Lagos,

Nigeria and Columbia University, New York, garnering her Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision, respectively. Dr. Mrs. Aguoji began her career in the Nigeria Federal Civil Service Commission and Ministry of Defense before joining the Department Of Education in New York, USA, where she rose through the ranks as a teacher, counselor, school administrator and supervisor. She also served as an adjunct professor at City of New York University. Her professional and public service background includes her membership of the several educational professional bodies and many social cultural organizations.

Prior to her election as CISA President, Dr. Uzoamaka Aguoji, a member of NIDO New York, served as National Vice President Board Of Directors, Vice President New York, Chapter, DSG–Education Chairperson–ASA World, Global Partners, President of League of Nigerian Women, Anambra Progressive Union, and Anambra State Association, all in New York, among many other positions including CISA Educational Director. Her long history of philanthropy, community building, and advocacy includes services for the education of the underprivileged. She has championed many breathtaking educational missions across Igboland and Nigeria with meaningful and realistic live impacting outcomes.

Dr. Aguoji aka Iru-Ugegbe, the incoming CISA President, holds the traditional title of Ochinudo (peaceful leader). She has pledged her commitment to work with Igbo Diaspora and other relevant agencies anywhere for the advancement of Igbo cultural heritage across the globe. CISA’s determination and commitment to this cause has never been stronger and so is the tone of the new leadership. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the outgoing President Engr. James Ogbuka Umekwe for his accomplishments especially in relocating CISA global festival to the historic Igbo landing site in St. Simons Island, entrenching the connection between ndi-Igbo USA of today and their ancestors whose active and evocative resistance against enslavement became the first of its kind in slave resistance movement.

Congratulations to the Council of Igbo States in Americas (CISA) for continuing its long-standing practice of smooth transitions! Congratulations to Ochinudo Dr. Mrs. Uzoamaka Aguoji! We are thrilled by your new role and are confident you will continue the creative and thoughtful work CISA has accomplished over the years in its growth.
